In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, The October Saves Goalie Challenge harnesses the power of youth sports to raise money to advance cancer research and treatments.  WLC Net minders  will gather pledges for each save they make during the month of October. Their families, friends and teammates support them making this a truly one-of-a-kind event for the hockey community.

Goalies will compete to see who can raise the most money. Fundraising rewards and prizes will be given and top fundraisers have the opportunity to win incredible prizes including Vaughn leg pads, a custom painted goalie mask, Vaughn glove and blocker and much more!

And the biggest prize of all….proceeds benefit pediatric and women’s cancer research. For 2017, we will also be partnering with The Goalie Guild to create the October Saves Scholarship Fund to support youth goalie development.

Participation in this event is very easy!  Everything runs through the www.OctoberSaves.org website including registration, pledges and donations, tracking of saves, fundraising stats, automatic charitable donations letters and more

We have a Pink Brick Wall banner hanging in the rink lobby where we will track our goalies fundraising progress.  The kids love to see the goalie masks move up the wall each week!

This is the 4th year of the event and it’s been amazing to see the pride these goalies feel as their hockey community rallies around them to raise money, as a light is shown on just how many saves they make each weekend (A LOT!) and as they win fundraising prizes for their hardwork.
