Congrats Adam!

Varga paces Washington to quick AYHL start

 Updated 1/21/16:

Adam would like to thank his 2001 Little Cap teammates for putting him in a position to be selected for the 2016 AYHL ALL-Star game.  He understands many of his teammates and Coach Messier are deserving of this honor.  Adam admits he and the 2001 team are solely focused on securing a spot in the AYHL playoffs and taking that momentum to SE Districts and hopefully a trip to Nationals. The 2001 WLC Bantam Major team has a record of 13 wins 2 losses and 10 ties.   In 23 games Adam has 28 goals and 14 Assists   44 points!!!  Adam Varga is excited to represent the Little Caps at the 2016 AYHL ALL- Star Event on 2/6.

The AYHL might not be the first league that springs to mind as a development platform for high-end OHL hockey prospects but with a lengthy alumni list that most recently includes the likes of Johnny Gaudreau (Calgary Flames); William Nylander (Toronto Maple Leafs); and Kyle Palmieri (Anaheim Ducks); it's clear that the league has been home to some legitimate talent.

While the spotlight of the 2001 age group might shine solely on the New Jersey Colonials tantalizing roster at this point, Washington's Adam Varga is a player who is quickly emerging as a potential NTDP-calibre player on an upstart Washington squad.

As of writing, Varga's 17 goals are tops in the AYHL while his 25 points in 13 games pace the Little Capitals. While the stats are impressive, it's important to keep them in context, and in the case of Varga, there's definitely a lot to like.

Varga has good size for the age group but his slippery one-on-one skills and dynamic ability are high-end elements of his game which backup the numbers and then some. In league play this year the Little Capitals have only fallen in defeat one time and that is largely attributable to Varga's impressive offensive presence as he's only been held off the scoresheet in one AYHL game.

Despite most of the talk being centered - and not unjustly - around players like Marshall Warren and John Farinacci, Varga is an intriguing player to keep a close eye on for NCAA programs and OHL teams heading into the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
