2003 WLC on a Roll
Two sweeps of AYHL rivals have put the 2003 WLC team in good position to potentially earn a berth in the AYHL playoffs with five games remaining in the season.
The run started with two hard-fought wins against our Beltway rivals at Team MD the weekend prior to winter break. Goalies Matthew McCarey and Alex Emam led the team to successive 2-1 and 7-2 victories, the latter game being close before a third period burst, supported by a stout defense and balanced scoring.
The team then traveled to CT Jan 3 — some stopping in NYC along the way -- and braved a brief snowstorm to pull out a late 4-1 victory over the CT Wolfpack at scenic Wesleyan University Arena. The next morning they played perhaps their most complete game of the season and finished the trip with a convincing 6-0 win that made the drive home that much easier.
Sandwiched between, of course, was a glorious day at the Winter Classic, including the team being interviewed by former LITTLE CAP Jeremy Roenick and one lucky 03 Little Cap getting Matt Niskanen's game-used stick.
